Krisztina Egyed - Canada - Bio

"I am self taught and began sculpting shortly after losing my beloved brother to cancer. Although my figures were inspired by tragedy they are a celebration of life. I've tried with sensitivity and integrity to impart in each of these figures a sense of myself, and the spirit and values by which I live." Dolls portraying children have long been favorites with collectors and in the past decade or so absolute realism has been the ultimate goal in the realm of doll art. The creations by Krisztina Egyed are a magnificent blend of these two - astonishingly realistic children sculpted by a master. Krisztina's sculptures are unique, painstakingly detailed works of art that take many months to complete. As a result, she can produce only a precious few pieces a year so many collectors spend great lengths of time on waiting lists to own one of her exquisite creations. Krisztina's subjects, born of her own lively imagination, are at once sophisticated and imbued with just enough childlike naughtiness to be irresistibly compelling. Dazzlingly realistic hands are wrapped around fanciful creatures of Krisztina's own design or entwined in waifish mohair curls and meticulously sculpted feet are mostly left bare to intrigue the viewer with perfect nails and delicate veins. She uses mixed media and, with infinite attention to detail, color, accessories and mood magically turns Fimo, wire armature, glass eyes, mohair and the finest fabrics available into captivating children that are at once other-worldly and absolutely accessible. To date, collectors mostly think in terms of children when they seek out information on or examples of Krisztina's work, but like any serious artist, she does not limit herself to one theme. There are surprises in store for all of us who love the imaginative and masterful work of this inimitable artist. Brigitte Hess
